For nearly 30 years, Lorette Pharmacie Dufresne has been a part of the Lorette community, providing pharmacy, postal, and healthcare services to local residents. What began as a small pharmacy alongside the Centre Medical Seine satellite clinic has grown into a well-established local business focused on personalized service and meeting the changing needs of the community.
Their Story
Lorette Pharmacie Dufresne has been part of the Lorette community since 1997. Cécile Dumesnil began her journey as the manager of a new pharmacy located alongside the Centre Médical Seine satellite clinic in Lorette’s original mall. By 1999, the pharmacy had moved to a larger location in the updated mall on Dawson Road. In 2005, Cécile purchased the pharmacy and adopted the name Pharmacie Dufresne. Over the years, the business continued to grow, eventually expanding into its current 2,000-square-foot space and adding a postal outlet. In 2014, the pharmacy became PharmaChoice – Lorette Pharmacie Dufresne, and further renovations in 2024 allowed the business to expand its shelf space.
Her connection to the community is both personal and professional. She grew up in Ste. Agathe and chose to raise her family in a small rural community with access to French-language education. Her path to becoming a pharmacist began at the University of St. Boniface, followed by her pharmacy program at the University of Manitoba. After completing a residency in Hamilton, Ontario, and working in hospital pharmacy at St. Boniface Hospital, she eventually returned to southeastern Manitoba and opened her own pharmacy in Lorette.
Throughout the years, Lorette Pharmacie Dufresne has focused on providing personalized service and building strong relationships with customers and their families. The pharmacy has had the opportunity to serve multiple generations of local families and continues to adapt its services to meet the changing needs of the community. From adding postal services to expanding healthcare services, the business has continued to grow alongside Lorette.
Community support has played an important role in that growth. Cécile and her team remain involved in the community, including supporting local schools and initiatives. While staffing has been challenging over the years, the business has remained flexible and open to change. Today, the pharmacy continues to look for opportunities to expand its services and meet the needs of the community, with Cécile hoping to continue serving Lorette and its families for many years to come.
